Check Out Scholarship Handbook 2011 (College Board Scholarship Handbook) for $15.48

Scholarship Handbook 2011 (College Board Scholarship Handbook) Review

The Scholarship Handbook 2011 has all these scholarships. Kweller Prep would like to provide some more information on some of the outstanding scholarships out there:

In today's competitive job market, a college education is a must, but college is expensive and many families can't afford it. New York State scholarships are governed by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, or the HESC. This system runs all the state-funded scholarships and grants, and also overlooks federal funding, making sure it is properly disbursed. From upstate to Long Island, and even in Manhattan, the HESC helps students all over the state achieve a higher education.

Thousands of academic scholarships are awarded to gifted students every year through the New York State Scholarships for Academic Excellence. This scholarship offers 00 to students as an incentive to study at in-state schools, and is renewable for up to four years. The Scholarship for Academic Excellence is offered through high schools to teens who scored highly on their "regents exams".

The New York Lottery also funds a scholarship program for leadership and community involvement. The New York Lottery Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship is awarded to one graduating senior from each New York public schools every year. This funds the student 00 for each year of study for up to four years at a state school.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships are also available for talented students, but they are not dependant on the student studying in state. Like the New York State Scholarship, the Byrd Scholars receive 00 that is renewable for up to four years. This scholarship is offered to students all over the country, and students are chosen based on their ACT/SAT scores, GPA, extracurricular interests and class rank.

There are many other scholarships offered through the state of New York for academic achievement. The state offers State Aid for Native Americans, children of veterans and to gifted students with disabilities. There are many options for a smart student in New York State and no child should be without a college education for lack of provision.

Despite the recent turn in the economy, there are still a plethora of available scholarships for all types of students from different backgrounds. Never automatically assume that you are not eligible for scholarship! Instead, take some time out and look at websites like[...] [...] [...]/ to see what you are eligible for.

Even if a scholarship deadline seems far away, be wary of how you spend your time. There are countless stories of how eligible students got locked out of scholarships because too many applicants applied for the same spots (causing the scholarship providers to push back the deadline or completely prevent any new students from applying). The faster you get organized and seek out opportunities, the faster you can win money and prepare for college in the months and weeks ahead.

Check Out Cracking the ACT, 2010 Edition (College Test Preparation) for $11.92

Cracking the ACT, 2010 Edition (College Test Preparation) Review

As an ACT Tutor, I have found this book most helpful to use with my students. From math strategies to punctuation technicalities, this book covers it all. The Science section is extensive, and very helpful as it is bursting with strategies. The practice tests provided in the book are of moderate difficulty. I recommend this resource to any student who wants to be prepared for all 5 test sections and get inside the heads, per say, of the test writers. As the ACT is very time pressured, learning Princeton Review's strategies would be very beneficial to students. I also recommend this resource to any tutor or parent that is looking to help a student prep for the ACT exam. ACT prep can be rather arduous, but is always rewarding--good luck!

Good starting book, but there are some errors - Richard Corn -
I am a private math tutor and author of Math Study Guide for the SAT®, ACT®, and SAT® Subject Tests - 2010 Edition (Math Study Guide for the SAT, ACT, & SAT Subject Tests). I sometimes use the practice tests in this book as a warm up for students and then follow it with the official practice tests found in The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Guide to Include 3Real ACT Tests. However I found two errors in the math tests in this book:

pg 445 problem 39. The answer is C, not H.

pg 453 problem 58. The answer is -12/5. This does not match any of the answer choices.

Great Book - J. L. Wendt - Fort Benton, Montana
I love the book. It makes studying for the ACT interesting. I enjoy the inserted humor.

ACT Book - CollegeBound - Texas, USA
I like the beginning section of the book that tells you the good, the bad, and the ugly behind taking the ACT vs. the SAT. The practice tests were pretty helpful, and the real test ended up being easier than the practices. So this prepares you really well, much better than "The Real ACT Guide." I would definitely recommend this to somebody who has had trouble on the SAT and looking for something different. Just remember, some people are better at one test and others are better at the other, so just because somebody did poorly on his SAT does not mean he will do so poorly on the ACT, and vice versa.
